Canadian handcrafted log homes, post and beam log homes, and timber frame homes

Quality log cabins and timber frame homes made easy for you

While many steps and details go into designing, planning and crafting a log home or timber frame home, we strive to make the experience smooth and pleasurable for you. Below are some common steps we walk through with clients to help you build your home.

Preliminary design
To help you visualize your future log home, post and beam or timber frame structure and to establish an approximate building budget, we capture your ideas into preliminary drawings. It can start with a conceptual sketch or a few magazine clippings, and we'll provide you a questionnaire to ensure every desire and need is covered.

While this stage can vary depending on your schedule and the complexity of the log home plans, it typically spans two weeks.

On completion you will obtain:
  • Floor plans
  • Structural view of the log or timber frame shell
  • Exterior views
  • Interactive animations of the log work and the finished home
Design revisions
You have the ability to group your revisions into 2 to 3 stages to manage your design costs. To provide you full control and confidence in selecting designs, you benefit from access to a powerful 'virtual reality' 3-D tool to view your home at all angles, in both image and movie form.

You'll be guided by our log cabin and home experts, who will provide you valuable insight and knowledge on various fronts, including:
  • Situation of your home on the property
  • Orientation to sun and view
  • Topography of the land and immediate landscaping
  • Layout of each room
  • Window and door sizes and positions
  • Main furniture placement and traffic flow
  • Cabinetry and appliances
  • Decks and covered porches
  • Log shell structure and aesthetic log features
  • Log species and sizes
  • Heating and cooling for each floor
  • Architectural style
  • Roof lines
  • Type of roof
  • Roof finish
  • Insulation
  • Interior and exterior finishes
Most revisions are completed within one or two weeks.
Final design
Once the set of timber frame house plans are completed, we produce the working drawings, which include:
  • Site plan (if requested)
  • Four elevations
  • Foundation plan
  • First floor plan
  • First & second floor framing plans
  • Second floor plan and roof framing plan
  • Electrical plans for all floors with construction details and notes
  • Customized construction details (concrete, framing, log work etc.)
  • Cross sections of finished home
  • Log builder shop drawings showing log walls and log roof beams in each section
  • Window and door schedules
  • Finishing schedules upon request
  • Builder specifications upon request
  • Two isometric views of the log shell
  • General construction notes
We apply possible engineering redlines and local building department reviews to architectural plans.

Construction
Each individual log for your home is air-dried or kiln dried and hand-peeled. The logs are then precisely cut and assembled log-by-log at a Brian Moore Log and Timber Homes worksite. Upon completion, the log home kit is disassembled and transported to your building site for reassembly.

While we conduct follow-ups to help maintain your log cabin or home, we can provide additional construction services and project management expertise. In some cases, one of our representatives can complete your home for you.  Sometimes, we can have one of our carpenters stay behind to assist your contractor with finishing.
Shipping and customs
We arrange the transportation of your log cabin or home materials from our site to a port near you. Once the containers arrive, our local broker can help you make arrangements to pay applicable taxes, duties and handling fees, as well as trucking to your site.
