Custom Log Homes
| Handcrafted log homes are defined by the method of their construction. It all begins with a pile of raw logs, which are separated from their bark by a few sturdy souls with very sharp drawknives. These hand peeled logs retain their natural taper, shape and size. The job of the log home builder and his crew is to construct a log “shell” from this array of massive, intriguing material. |

Log Home ConstructionLog walls rise as new logs are fitted to the ones below. Corners interlock with a well designed notch. Log ends are trimmed and sanded. Log joists are fitted into walls. Log posts and purlins are mortise and tenoned. Modern chainsaws and other hand held power tools accomplish the heavy cutting jobs…but where wood meets wood, the finished edges are “hand-crafted” with chisels, mallets, and well sharpened axes. You can see photographs of these beautiful handcrafted log homes on our website.Shipping Handcrafted Log HomesModern day handcrafted log home “shells” are built at a central construction yard, disassembled, and loaded onto trucks for a road trip to their final destination. Many handcrafted log homes are placed in shipping containers for an even longer ocean voyage to their foreign home. Upon arrival at its destination, the log home is reunited with, and reassembled by the original log home builders. This second assembly of the log work is seen as the end of the first act. The log home project is then passedoff to a local contractor to complete. Of course, the original log home builders maintain communication with the local contractor until the project is totally complete. See our selection of handcrafted log home plans. |
