Timber Frame House, Toyoma, Japan
Timber frame homes have gained popularity in Japan. In this particular style the frame is partially exposed on the exterior and fully exposed on the interior. This building centres on a rather large Western Red Cedar tree, which does double duty as structural support and showpiece. Constructed from Western Red Cedar timbers, all joints are oak pegged and the entry gable features a hammer-beam truss. Stop in and have a look at this show home next time you’re in Toyama, on the west coast of Japan.
