Dovetail Log Home, Switzerland
The walls of this dovetail house are an amazing 40cm (16 inches) thick, and are made from timbers cut from old growth Western Red Cedar. The size of the timbers, coupled with the superior insulating value of Cedar, give these walls an impressive .23 U-value. This is more than enough to meet strict new European and American energy codes.
Timbers are joined by use of a tongue and groove system along their length, and traditional dovetail joints at corner intersections. Hidden gasketing, wool insulation and tensioned through bolts complete the wall package.
